WASTE site proposals in Royston criticised for being "vague" by town councillors last month are incorrect, it has emerged. A site in Beverley Close - where the current waste and recycling centre is located - is not the proposed site for a new waste dump, Herts County Council has told members of the council's finance and general purposes committee on Monday evening. The site proposed site is in Orchard Road. The county council said that should the site be selected it will only be used for "clean waste". While this means there will be no medical or hazardous waste - as members previously worried - County councillor Doug Drake warned that the site would be noisy. "It does needs to be somewhere away from housing and I think we need to be careful. I'm very anxious to find out where this is," he said. Cllr Chris Barton questioned whether the waste site should be located in Royston at all. He said: "Is this in addition to the existing facilities in the town? Do we really need it? We've got waste management facilities in the town already." The site is one of 63 across Herts which is being considered for waste disposal.
