TRAVELLERS who pitched up in a Royston playing field on Tuesday have been told today (Friday) they must leave next week or face eviction.

North Herts District Council told travellers - currently situated on a field next to Studlands Rise First School - at noon today that they must move on by early next week or an eviction notice will be enforced.

The council has also organised security personnel to be on site from now until the duration of the weekend to prevent any additional travellers from entering the site.

Andy Godman, head of housing and public protection for the council, said: “We would like to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to resolve the situation in a timely manner and ask for their continued patience over the weekend.”
