The emergency services have been praised for their “quick and efficient response” after a chemical explosion last night (Wednesday).
A spokesman for Johnson Matthey PLC in Royston – the scene of a chemical spill at about 6.45pm yesterday – has thanked firefighters and police for their efforts.
Six fire crews attended the spill while police closed roads surrounding the factory in Orchard Road as a precaution.
No members of staff were in the immediate vicinity of the explosion, which was contained within the building, and no one was injured.
John Gourd, Johnson Matthey PLC’s site planning and services director, said: “This was an isolated incident, which was completely contained within the production area.
“I would like to thank the emergency services for their quick and efficient response. At Johnson Matthey, health and safety is our highest priority and this incident will be thoroughly investigated.”
