MORE than 10 per cent of under-18s in Hertfordshire are able to buy alcohol, test purchases have revealed. Of 88 test purchases carried out by police in recent weeks, 10 resulted in under-18s buying alcohol. The figures come just days after The Crow revealed that North Herts District Council was on the verge of approving an alcohol ban in Royston town centre and the Priory Memorial Gardens. The move is planned to curb anti-social behaviour and under-age drinking. Police licensing co-ordinator Insp Ian Stubbs said: "We fully support the trading standards decision to prosecute those who sold alcohol to people who were clearly and obviously well under the age of 18, without questioning their age and without asking for ID. "It is vital that we send a clear message to shops, pubs, and clubs, that this is inexcusable and anti-social.
