Royston Cave will feature in the first episode of a new show fronted by Tony Robinson tomorrow evening.
The show explores the network of ancient trackways that criss-cross the country, and the first episode is focuses on the mysteries and legends of Icknield Way, said to be one of Britain’s oldest roads, which runs through Royston.
The cave, a man-made, bell shaped chamber, is hidden beneath Melbourn Street and is decorated throughout with medieval style carvings, many of which remain a mystery.
Britain’s Ancient Tracks with Tony Robinson is on tomorrow at 8pm on Channel 4.
