A SCHOOLBOY prank is leading to the creation of a "complete eyesore".

For the past two months, Georgina Huish's bedroom window view has been plighted by the sight of tatty trainers hanging from a telephone line.

She believes it is an act that has escalated to more than a joke.

Mrs Huish, of Lower Gower Road, Royston, said: "You really don't want to see trainers and shoes hanging from your house every day.

"I've lost count of the times I have taken them down, but they always seem to find their way back up on the line."

At first, Mrs Huish was concerned that someone was being bullied, but now believes it is just a stupid prank.

Mrs Huish, who has lived in Royston for 10 years, said: "It is a complete eyesore and nothing more than an act of hooliganism.

"I have contacted the police and they were sympathetic, but it appears there is nothing that they can do.

"It really lowers the tone and I certainly do not want to see a skyline full of trainers.

"And it's not just in my street, I've also seen shoes flung over phone lines along other roads."

Mrs Huish has also had rubbish thrown onto her lawn and graffiti spread across her fence.

She said: "Stupidity like this can ruin the appearance of the town.

"I think these youngsters need to think about their own homes before they ruin someone else's environment.

"Maybe a stint of National Service will sort them out?

"What will the place be like 10 years from now? Something needs to be done and the sooner the better," she said.

Mrs Huish added: "These youngsters need more discipline and above all they need to learn some respect.
