A PUZZLE fanatic is celebrating after winning a diamond worth £12,000.

Royston resident Steve Murphy has received the pear-shaped diamond from puzzle firm Wasgij, who ran a competition to mark the firm’s 16th birthday.

Mr Murphy, who collected his prize from the firm’s headquarters in Hatfield on Friday, said: “I was so surprised to be told I had actually won. The diamond is beautiful, though I haven’t decided what I am going to do with it yet.

“I love puzzles, and my partner has just bought me the new Destiny 13 which features a steam engine and a couple of train spotters in shorts. As something of a steam engine fanatic and an ex-train spotter this one’s going to be right up my street.”

An IT worker by trade, Mr Murphy entered the competition to win the diamond after seeing the promotion in a puzzle box he received for Christmas.
