THIEVES got more than they bargained for when they stole a trailer from Shepreth Wildlife Park - piled high with manure. The thieves struck on Monday night when a member of staff, returning to the park at about 7pm, saw the trailer being driven away on the back of a van. The park had only had the trailer for one year. Shop manager Haley Kelly said: "They must have known what they were doing as they broke off the trailer's hitch and ball lock, and must've broke the wheel clamp without damaging the vehicle." Wildlife park owner Terry Willers said: "The trailer is a tipper and we still have the mechanism for tipping out the load so I can't imagine how the thieves have emptied the trailer or even where. "At this time of year when public attendance is limited the park's funds are so low it's a struggle to keep all the animals in their special diets and heating programmes. "This is just another blow when money is tight," he added. The matter is being dealt with by Cambridgeshire police.
