SETTING a vision for the future development of Buntingford will be put on hold until after the town council elections in May.
Councillors believe that it would be unfair to burden a newly elected town council with such a project if they were not prepared to do it.
Deputy mayor Cllr Jean Cook said: "It's a two to three year commitment and we all lead busy lives.
"The number of man-hours that councillors would have to put in is a concern."
Cllr Eunice Woods said: "We should put it off until the new council has been elected."
Cllr Teresa Bonner, however, was doubtful that improvements would get made even if the town council went ahead with the town plan.
She said: "While we are being positive, we seem to get ignored by East Herts District Council and Herts County Council."
The last town plan was compiled in 1986 and later updated in 1989.
Back then the town "supported minimal growth" like today and issues the council was concerned with included people and their needs, land and its use and public utilities.
