As there was no official celebration organised in the area, a group of friends decided to celebrate Her Majesty the Queen becoming the longest reigning monarch with something different.
The friends, including Jenny Newington, Liz Tibble, Marion Ling, Jean Cook, Alex Chapman, Jackie Thomas, June Renney and Julia Peacock headed down to the Silver Ball cafe in Reed to enjoy a slap-up English breakfast, and toasted Elizabeth’s remarkable achievement in true British style – with hearty mugs of tea and coffee.
Like the Queen, the friends from Buntingford are all wives, mothers and grandmothers – with one great grandmother in the mix. Jean Cook said: “We have a lot of empathy with the Queen and wanted to record our admiration for her life of service and devotion to duty.”
