Age proved no distance or barrier as older folk met youngersters for a new community scheme in Therfield.
The Generations at Play project, which was organised by Therfield First School and Therfield Chapel, sees older members of the community go along and play traditional board games and cards with pupils from the school on the first Wednesday of every month.
For the first session, seven residents from Therfield and Kelshall joined Year 4s and conversation and giggles flowed over classic games, including Dominoes, Snap, Connect 4 and Kerplunk – before hot chocolate and cakes were served.
Afterwards, headteacher Tara McGovern asked the pupils to reflect on what they learnt from the session.
Amelie Ellis, aged nine, said: “You should listen to old people more because they have had their whole life and experiences to share with us.”
Nellie-Emma, also nine, said: “It was really fun playing with Holly. She taught me a different way to play Snap!”
