TOWN crier Graham Pfaff will be exercising his vocal chords on Saturday evening.

But this time he will be playing the role of auctioneer.

He will conduct proceedings at an auction organised by the Royston Town Centre Forum to raise money towards the costs of improving amenities.

Graham said: "It will certainly be a different job for the town crier."

The auction will be taking place at The Meridian School at 7.30pm - and tickets costing £3 (sitting) and £2 (standing) will be available on the door.

The organisers have been overwhelmed by the number of lots that have been donated for the auction.

These include items signed by Victoria Beckham, Nicki Chapman, and Geri Halliwell.

Other lots include a helicopter ride over London for two people, and a holiday in a villa in Portugal.

And one lot that has already captured the attention is a session with a rally driving champion.

Town manager Geraint Burnell said: "The idea behind the auction is to raise money to expand the activities of the forum.

"We have several ideas in mind which will improve the town centre but it all costs money." - 1918DW6
