A TEACHER at the Meridian School, Royston, is organising a national campaign to encourage girls to get into physics.
Caitriona McKnight is a driving force behind the project, which is called Girls into Physics, and is being run by the Science Learning Centres and sponsored by the Institute of Physics for England and Ireland.
She said: "We have to aim the curriculum so that physics relates to everyday life so that students can see an application in what they are doing.
"Emphasis also needs to be on careers so that students can see a purpose and pathway for the future.
" This is a really important initiative for the future of industry in this country."
Meridian student Melanie Coates, 15, said: "Science in general and physics in particular can be really exciting.
"For example we have had a snapshot of all the applications of physics in the wider world at the Cavendish Laboratories where lots of different manufacturers showed how they use physics in their jobs.
