Mary Berry would have been proud of the efforts of students at Bassingbourn Village College who took part in the school’s Bake Off competition – there wasn’t a soggy bottom in sight.
The Great BVC Bake Off attracted more than 30 entries from students throughout the school, with the final being won by Sophie Marriage and Emma Kitely.
Both girls competed alongside four other finalists in a technical challenge which was judged by headteacher Duncan Cooper who adopted his best Paul Hollywood approach in the blind tasting event.
He said: “It was really very difficult to pick the winners – all the entries were excellent and in the end it came down to tiny details such as the thickness of pastry or quantity of jam.” The winners won a cash prize of £25 each.
