A SPORTS group in Buntingford has decided on a new surface for a multi-games area in the town. Representatives from the Buntingford and District Sports Association (BDSA) and Buntingford Town Council have decided on a Polymeric surface for the multi-games area at Norfolk Road Playing Fields. The surface is one on which most sports could be played. Group secretary Lindsey Poulton said: "It's the only real surface that's multi-sports usable. "We have to cater for as many sports as possible and when we look for funding, the more sports we cater for, the more likely it is we will get funding. "Unfortunately, we don't qualify for some of the grants because we are only replacing a facility so it's going to be a lot of hard work." Town clerk Jill Jones said: "It's going to be a lengthy procedure, but if all goes well it might be finished by April 2007. It is dependent on funding and we have still got to ask for estimates and grants." - Following recent drainage work, full-scale football matches at the playing fields have been cancelled until the summer to allow the recently re-seeded pitches to recover.
