A TASTE of Indonesia came to Edwinstree School in Buntingford when pupils learned the secrets of gamelan music.
Year 6 pupils at the school are this term studying gamelan music, which is percussion-based, and originates from Indonesia.
An authentic Balinese gamelan orchestra from the Inspire Works Company came to Edwinstree to give children an introduction to the style.
Leader of music at Edwinstree Amanda Mitchell said: "The workshop was a real success and gave all the pupils a fantastic opportunity to experience authentic gamelan instruments.
"It was great to see the Year 6 learning so much about a different culture and developing their musical skills while also having lots of fun."
During the workshop the children learned a traditional Balinese piece, and discovered the meaning of music in Bali, the instruments used, the structure of the music, and the various playing techniques.
They will now start work on composing their own gamelan music. Pupil Max Homewood said: "I really enjoyed the workshop. It was so inspiring.
