A WOMAN from Bassingbourn has been awarded Lottery funding to spearhead a training programme for young people in the county. Marie Munro, a qualified life coach, received £3,500 from UnLtd, the Millennium Awards Commission which supports social entrepreneurs. She received the cheque from Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow at a ceremony in London. She said: "I was absolutely thrilled to receive it. It is so good to get any recognition." Marie's award is being used to promote a life skills training programme, called Go For Gold, which she is currently running for a group of Year 9 pupils at Bassingbourn Village College. She said: "Teenagers may sometimes lack confidence and belief in themselves. "This can be a confusing time as they try to cope with all the changes taking place. The course teaches them strategies to help them cope and also how to improve their confidence and self-belief. "Learning these skills will undoubtedly stand them in good stead as they enter adulthood. They are skills for life." Marie hopes to extend the Go for Gold programme to other schools in Cambridgeshire as well as youth groups. - For details on the course call Marie Munro on 01763 242810.
