The Old North Road area of Royston has been plunged into darkness in the last two weeks after a fault with street lights.

Electricity supplier UK Power Networks was notified by Herts County Counil on Friday last week that some street lights in Old North Road were not working.

A spokeswoman for Ringway, which oversees maintenance issues for the county council, said: “The street lights here are out due to a fault with the UK Power Networks Electricity supply to the lights. The issue was reported to them two weeks ago.

“The industry standard for them to resolve such issues is 20 working days and we have no control over their response.”

A spokeswoman from UK Power Networks said: “Engineers attended on Sunday to assess the problem and we are working to restore supplies as quickly as possible.”

The extend of the failure extends from Royston railway station towards Tesco, with reports of lights also out in Gower Road and Serby Avenue.
