Villagers in Steeple Morden and beyond have been delving into the area’s past via a new exhibition at the parish church.

The 100 Years of Memories display includes 30 scrap books collected and compiled by retired parish clerk, Betty Lockwood, over 30 years or more.

The contents are gleaned from the Crow and other newspapers full of diverse topics from sport to snowmen and scarecrows built by one of the local farmers.

Gillian McKee, who helped organise the display, said: “This wonderful exhibition was the brain child of villager Rose Dickinson who sadly died before its opening.

“Our post mistress Tricia Covington took over and with a small committee has brought together a fantastic collection of facts, photographs and memorabilia from clubs, organisations and private collections. The display boards were cleverly created by Albert Covington and Keith Austin.”

The exhibition runs until Wednesday next week, opening hours are 3pm to 6.30pm on weekdays, and 11am to 4pm at the weekend.

On Friday however, it’s open until 7.30pm with a bar and refreshments available.

Also in the church, on Saturday evening there will be a performance of “The Beauty and the Sorrow” tickets £10 available from Steeple Morden Post Office or in the church. Refreshments available and a pay bar.
