Some of Tottenham Hotspur’s famed former players are booked in for an all-singing all-dancing charity match in Royston.
The Spurs Legends versus The Nicola Emmerson Trust match will see the likes of Darren Anderton, Tony Galvin, Justin Edinburgh, Chris Perry and David Howells kicking into action against some local footie hopefuls at Royston Football Club.
Julie Emmerson, who set up the trust in memory of her daughter Nicola who died of sudden cardiac death in 2007, said: “We did a Spurs Legends match about five years ago and it was such an amazing day. We want to recreate that fun but with a few extra bits.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling organising something like this. It keeps Nicola’s memory alive and raises awareness and funds research into sudden cardiac death.”
Julie comes from a family of Spurs fans – her hubby Steve is a great supporter and Nicola wasn’t into football unless the Lilywhites were playing.
Craft shop owner and fan Laura Whitford will be singing at the event, and her son Jeremy will be leading the mascots. Her father has been a life-long supporter and is looking forward to buying Jeremy his kit as he has never had a son to buy one for.
Laura said: “I had a season ticket for Spurs in the late 80s, watching lots of the players who will be there in May. I went with my dad, grandad and cousin when I was a teenager.”
Julie said: “Laura is a great singer, although she threatened to sing Diamond Lights, so I had to politely decline.”
Julie is calling out to local businesses who would like to support the charity, to advertise in the match day programme.
She is also looking for a catering company to provide post-match food for the players, in exchange for a free advert in the programme.
Tickets are £10 for a family – two adults and two children under 12 – £5 for adults and £2 for children under 12. The first 300 tickets receive a free match day programme.
The match will be held on Sunday, May 15, at Royston FC.
Kick off is at 2pm, but people can start enjoying the fun from 12 noon, with a bouncy castle, a raffle and face-painting all on the timetable for the afternoon. You can buy tickets from No.3 Royston or online at www.thenicolaemmersontrust.co.uk.
