Spirited response to Damien’s ghost tour around Royston

Brave Roystonians with nerves of steel set off on a ghost tour around the town on Saturday, led by author and historian Damien O’Dell.
The tour, which took in around a score of reputedly haunted locations in the town, taught locals a thing or two about the history of Royston.
Damien said: “The Ghost Walk went very smoothly, we had a friendly crowd, everyone enjoyed themselves.
“It will be an annual event, around Hallowe’en time.”
Shop owner Laura Whitford, who took part in the walk, said: “It was really interesting, not only to find out about the spooky stories, but also to learn about the history of the buildings.
“It’s slightly unnerving to hear about the ghost in Hush Skin and Beauty though – I’m going there for a facial!”
Laura was joined by friend Anne Walls who said: “Royston has such a long history covering many periods and important times in history.
“It was interesting that most of the ghosts are friendly and harmless and that people don’t mind them, just a few were unpleasant.
“We had a nice chat with the organiser who has lots of knowledge about the surrounding area.”
Damien will lead a night walk for adults on Wednesday, November 18, meeting at 7.30pm at Royston railway station.
