SIX state-of-the-art safety cameras are to be installed near Royston.
The digital safety cameras, which will cost around £6,500 each to install, will be sited on A505 duel carriageway between Royston and Baldock.
Theresa Casbard, head of Hertfordshire County Council's road safety unit, said: "We are the first partnership in the country to place an order for these fixed digital cameras.
"As with the existing cameras, they should continue to make a big contribution to casualty reduction and will gradually be rolled out county-wide."
The upgrade to digital will include new, separate, "night flash" poles. The existing "wet film" cameras will eventually be phased out.
