The burst water main that left houses in South Cambs without water this morning has been located in Arrington, and is currently being repaired.

Litlington, Bassingbourn, The Mordens, Shingay, Wendy, Orwell, Arrington and the surrounding areas were all affected by the burst main this morning, with some households having low pressure and others without water at all.

Cambridge Water tweeted: “Customers may be experiencing loss of supply or low pressure, this is due to a burst main on the A1198 #Arrington - SG8 area. We are working hard to get this restored as quickly as possible.”

Homes should notice their water being restored now, but if you live on Arrington’s Ermine Way, where the main burst, you’ll be without water for some time yet.

Cambridge Water added: “We can confirm that the burst main has been located and supplies should be restored, however, this may be at a lower pressure. The only properties that will be without water for the duration of the repair are in Ermine Way, Arrington.”

A member of staff from Steeple Morden C of E Primary School in Hay Street told the Crow that they closed the school today because of the water problems, and will be open tomorrow – the last day of term – if the water is back on.

Many schools are already on their holidays – and one of the biggest attractions for a day out in our area, Arrington’s Wimpole Estate, is also confirmed closed.

They tweeted this morning: “ESTATE CLOSED. We currently have no water across the estate due to a burst pipe in the local area. We’re foreseeing being closed until the situation is rectified. Please keep checking back - we’ll update you when we know when we’ll be back to normal again.”
