ON May 6 voters in Crow Country will be going to the polls in the General Election.

Last week we took a look at the candidates for the North East Herts seat, and this week we are focusing on the South Cambs seat currently held by Andrew Lansley.

Here the six candidates for the constituency, which includes Melbourn, Bassingbourn, the Mordens, and many other Crow Country villages, explain why they should get your vote:

ANDREW LANSLEY (CONSERVATIVE)

I pledge that I will work hard to improve your quality of life and fight for your priorities: supporting our NHS; high standards in our local schools; faster broadband; better roads and public transport; and local planning decisions to be decided by local people.

TARIQ SADIQ (LABOUR)

I will fight for all the people of South Cambridgeshire and I will champion progressive values. Labour represents the best chance for economic recovery by helping the unemployed back to work, reducing repossessions, and investing in our frontline services. We will reduce the deficit by half over four years through spending cuts, tax increases on the wealthiest, and economic growth.

SEBASTIAN KINDERSLEY (LIB DEM)

As South Cambridgeshire's MP I want to continue representing all our citizens as I have over the past 11 years as a local councillor. We need a new voice in Parliament. We have to address the problems locally such as a lack of affordable housing, hopeless public transport and a failure to deliver proper local services for rural communities. I want to be 100 per cent a servant of the citizens of South Cambridgeshire.

SIMON SAGGERS (GREEN)

I care passionately about creating a South Cambs that is more self reliant and community based. I joined the Greens because I wanted a real alternative to the main parties. The Green Party is not just about the environment. It has a full range of practical policies aimed at achieving a better quality of life. Rather than voting for 'business as usual' please vote Green and be part of creating a brighter, greener future for our children.

ROBIN PAGE (INDEPENDENT)

The independent candidate believes MPs' expenses should be cut by 50 per cent, and MPs' pensions be reduced by 80 per cent. He would like to see a referendum on the Lisbon treaty, says the current immigration policy is a matter of "major financial illiteracy", and wants to see the "stranglehold of political correctness" broken.

HELENE GREEN-DAVIES (UKIP)

I believe in accountability. No one should be above the law, not even officers of Europol or judges in the European Court of Justice, as they now are. Public money should be properly accounted for, and all political decisions should be public, unlike those of the European Commission. As an MP, I would always be answerable to my constituents.
