FOUR months after the national smoking ban was introduced, people in South Cambridgeshire are still complying with the legislation.
Since the country became a smoke free zone on July 1, officers from South Cambs District Council have carried out 528 spot checks.
Restaurants, pubs, hotels, vehicles and businesses have all been subject to the checks.
However, officers have issued only five written warnings - three for premises not displaying the correct signage, one for failing to stop smoking in a smoke free place, and one for an individual smoking in a smoke free place.
Councillor Daphne Spink, portfolio holder for housing and environmental health, said: "Our smoke free officers have been hard at work across the district making sure that everyone observes the new legislation.
"Their checks are random and premises do not know in advance that they are visiting.
