An application to cut down tall overhanging trees from a road described as a ‘beautiful green walkway’ in Thriplow has been changed after villagers expressed fears over the destructive impact on the conservation area.
The owner of land next to Farm Lane has amended his application, to cut down only smaller trees which overhang into the road.
This would be less than 10 per cent of the trees over a 300 metre stretch.
A spokesman for South Cambridgeshire District Council said: “As their initial plans were unclear we have asked for amended information showing this clearly. This will need to be agreed by our tree officer before any work can be carried out.”
The initial plans worried people who regularly enjoy walks under its canopy.
Parish councillor Barbara Pointon said: “It is the quietest lane in the village and there’s very little traffic. It’s a beautiful spot, enjoyed by all.”
District and county councillor Peter Topping said: “I am pleased with the result which shows that local concerns were listened to and the canopy of trees saved for people to enjoy.”
