The director of a day-care nursery in Shingay-cum- Wendy is over the moon that her new allotments are encouraging her young tots to eat healthy herbs and veg.
Jacquie Ellison runs The Wendy House Day Nursery at East Suite Manor Farm with business partner Matt Darby, and the pair introduced allotments earlier this year in an effort to help children understand where food comes from, how it is grown and how to prepare fresh and wholesome grub.
Jacquie said: “We had the allotment installed as we really want to promote healthy eating within the nursery and to give the children a better understanding of how food is grown and the fun of picking and eating the food they have helped to care for.
“The children love it. It has been a huge success with them and they absolutely love going every day to water and tend to the plants.”
The allotments offer up a hearty selection of fresh vegetables including beans, courgettes, potatoes, lettuces, radishes and beetroot.
