HERTFORDSHIRE'S new High Sheriff was given a tour of Royston on Tuesday.
Paul Cherry visited the Royston & District Museum where he was shown around curator Carole Kaszak and then spent time at Royston Cave before taking a look at the Royston Leisure Centre.
At the cave he was met by the Mayor of Royston, Cllr Peter Lill. He was given an account of the history of the cave
Mr Cherry, who was accompanied by Allison Ashley, vice-chairman of North Herts District Council, described the cave as "fantastically unspoilt".
He said: "It's wonderful to see local people keeping local heritage alive."
Cllr Lill said: "It's great to see the new sheriff out and about in the community."
Mr Cherry took over from previous High Sheriff, Howard Guard.
He will hold the position until March 2009.
