A Shepreth tennis player has been recognised with an outstanding achievement award by Cambridgeshire Lawn Tennis Association.
Christine Knight was presented with the award and a £50 cheque for her services to tennis by former British professional tennis player Danny Sapsford at a special event last week, and will now be nominated for the LTA’s British Tennis Awards later this year.
In 2008, she organised a project which raised £300,000 to rebuild the run-down courts on Therfield Heath so that Royston Tennis Club could move back there. The new courts were opened in November 2010 and the club now has more than 360 members.
Christine also raised £60,000 after joining Meldreth Tennis Club committee with the aim of increasing membership and providing new courts for the club.
She managed to provide two brand new LTA standard courts, which opened last summer, and membership has tripled.
