The team at an animal charity in Heydon were delighted to receive a donation of equipment from a Shepreth business, ahead of the shelter’s biggest day of the year.

Wrights Mower Centre, based in Dunsbridge Turnpike, delivered the new Makita EH7500 hedge trimmer to Wood Green, The Animals Charity, so the site can be in top condition before their Animal Antics Day this weekend.

The piece of kit – worth more than £600 – was welcomed by staff and volunteers, after their own trimmer was deemed no longer safe to use.

Heydon Centre Manager Monika Maintz was delighted at the unexpected donation.

She said: “We expect hundreds of local people to join us for a day of family fun on Sunday.

“We want our beautiful site, near Royston, to be at its best, but the current equipment at Heydon is no longer safe to use.

“It would be sad to have to spend the charity’s money unnecessarily, so this wonderful donation couldn’t have come at a better time!”

Christine Wright, of family-run Wrights Mowers, said: “We were really happy to help and we are delighted that our donation will make such a difference to Wood Green. We would also like to thank Makita who helped make this donation possible.”

The Animal Antics Day on Sunday is on at the Heydon centre in Chishill Road from 11am, and entry is free. Visitors can meet the charity’s pets, try their hand at chicken agility, or make some enrichment toys for their own pets.
