The dog found on Therfield Heath in Royston has settled into her new home, with the hero who rescued her.

Cocker spaniel Nell was found alone, collapsed and underweight in a bush on Hallowe’en – and was suffering with a serious skin condition.

She was rushed to Royston Veterinary Centre for treatment and after a month of care she finally moved into a loving, permanent home with Dr Ed Blissett and his labrador Ben last week.

“She is settling in well,” he said.

“She loves her three walks a day with Ben and greatly enjoys chasing a ball.

“Thanks to her excellent veterinary care, her health is improving, although we have many weeks of medical treatment ahead.

“Psychologically she is now slowly gaining in confidence and she draws a great deal of reassurance from living with Ben.

Dog lovers in the town banded together to raise more than £800 for her vet fees.

“I would like to thank Charlotte Smith of Tescos for her unprompted fundraising efforts, which were greatly appreciated,” Ed added.

“I would also like to thank all those generous people who are giving money directly to the vets.”
