Several fire crews from Herts and Cambs spent more than three hours tackling a blaze in Melbourn yesterday evening.
At 7.26pm, it is understood that two crews from Royston, one from Baldock and Letchworth and one from Gamlingay fire station were called to the scene in a field near the A10 and Royston Road in Melbourn.
A Cambs fire and rescue spokesman said: “Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire involving a large quantity of straw and rubbish.
“They extinguished the fire using hosereels and returned to their stations by 11.10pm.”
The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental.
