Beavers, cubs and scouts of The 7th Royston (Barkway) group, in Barley, raised nearly £200 for St Margaret’s Church in the village by abseiling down it.
Explorer scouts led by James and Ben Truett thrilled spectators by descending the 12th century Norman tower to clean and repaint the golden hands of the William Butterfield church clock.
50 brave teddy bears were sponsored to take the plunge on zip wire from the tower to the lych gate below much to the crowd’s delight.
Scout Leader Geoff Kavanagh was visibly moved by the large turnout for the event.
The vicar Rev Ruth Pyke was most grateful for the scout’s contribution towards the restoration of Barley’s famous old church.
