THE GREAT fire of Therfield burned brightly, but luckily the fire brigade was on hand to put it out.
Children in class one at Therfield School have been working on the Great Fire of London during the last half term, and class teacher Charlotte Ferguson came up with a novel way of ending the topic.
She said: "The children have really enjoyed the topic, and put such a lot of effort into it that I thought it would be nice to do something special to round things off.
"So we made a model of London, and re-created the great fire. I contacted the fire brigade and they were helpful, and came in to supervise, then extinguish the fire."
The children split into groups and built different buildings, including models of St Paul's Cathedral and the Pudding Lane bakery, in which the fire started on September 5, 1666.
"The fireman also gave us a talk on fire safety," said Charlotte.
"The pupils really enjoyed it and several of them said it was the most memorable lesson they've ever had.
