School prepares for redevelopment in Bassingbourn

Bassingbourn Village College will be undergoing a new development


FUNDS have been granted to help redevelop a school building.

Bassingbourn Village College has been successful in its bid to gain government backing to redesign parts of the school, including a new dining area and additional classroom. There are also plans to relocate the school library.

Duncan Cooper, principal of the school, said: “The school celebrates its 60th year in 2014 so it is a good time to have these new facilities in place. It originally opened with just 320 pupils and now has around twice that amount so we are always looking at ways to maximise the space we have.”

The bid was put together by construction consultant company, Baily Garner, which will also manage the project.

The news comes after a recent Ofsted inspection rated the school ‘good’ overall.

Redevelopment work will begin in August and is scheduled to be finished by Christmas.
