A MYSTERY bug has struck pupils at schools in Royston - leaving hundreds of children at home. The Meridian School was the worst hit with a total of 140 pupils absent at one time. Pupils at Roysia Middle School also suffered from the mystery bug with 86 of the 235 pupils away. A school spokesperson said: "We had 86 pupils off last week with a sickness flu-type bug. This week we haven't had as many children off and fortunately none of our staff have been off sick." At Greneway School, there have also been a large number of students absent. A school spokesperson said: "We have 75 pupils off today (Wednesday), but it's been in the 70s since last week so it's quite a large proportion. "Some have sickness bugs, others have bad throats and headaches, but they all seem to be viral.
