The group campaigning to save a 400-year-old Reed pub from being permanently turned into a house has been celebrating the success of their fundraising pop-up pub night on Saturday.

About 100 people turned up to Reed Village Hall in aid of Save The Cabinet’s fighting fund, and raised more than £750.

There was music from Sky West, with the event supported by Pinkster’s Gin, Clarks of Ware and Adnams brewery.

Action group chair Mike Howes said: “The turnout showed the need for a pub in Reed. Others said it was pleasant to catch up with old friends, some of whom they have hardly seen since the pub closed.”

Campaigners now expect the decision on The Cabinet, situated in Reed High Street, to be determined in the summer.

Mike added: “Reed needs its pub to be restored as the hub of this community.

“The resurgence in the pub culture help us to feel confident that we will soon be on the way to getting our pub back.”
