IT will be business as usual for the Conservatives in next month's North Herts District Council election. The wards in Royston will be contested by the sitting councillors: Cllr Bill Davidson (Palace ward), Cllr Fiona Hill (Heath ward) and Cllr Tony Hunter (Meridian ward). But neither Cllr Hill nor Cllr Hunter will be seeking re-election to Royston Town Council. The Palace ward seat will also be contested by Ken Garland (Labour) and Liz Beardwell (Liberal Democrat). Over recent years, the Palace ward has elected candidates from each of the three political parties, with Cllr Davidson taking the seat from Labour four years ago. Meanwhile, two years ago, Cllr Robert Inwood took the seat for the Liberal Democrats. All seats in Royston are three-member seats with elections held in a three-year cycle. In Meridian ward, Karen Harmel is standing for the Green Party alongside veteran Robin King (Labour) and Nanya Lilley (Liberal Democrat). In Heath ward, Cllr Hill is defending her seat against Vaughan West (Labour) and David May (Liberal Democrat). The elections will be taking place on Thursday, May 4, with polling stations open from 8am-9pm.
