A TEENAGER whose ambition is to star in musicals has moved a step closer to recording an album with a top producer.

Sam Smith, 14, of Heydon Road, Great Chishill, has reached the grand final of Live & Unsigned South Coast Idol after singing Nina Simone's Feeling Good.

Sam was one of 18 performers at the regional finals on Tuesday night who made the final stage of the competition. He won best male singer in the biggest talent contest after ITV's X-Factor.

If he impresses the judges at the final on May 26 at the Guildhall in Portsmouth, he could win the chance to record an album with Craig David's producer Mark Hill and become the best Live & Unsigned male act of 2007.
