Runners gear up for Royston in Blue

FINAL preparations are underway for this year’s Royston in Blue charity run.
The run takes place on Sunday, June 23, at Therfield Heath, and organisers already have more than 400 people signed up to take part.
This week the committee received a boost thanks to housebuilder Redrow, who have provided a donation of £500 to help cover costs of the event.
Kate Beed, Royston in Blue treasurer, said: “We’re extremely grateful for Redrow’s continued support as it’s only thanks to the generosity of our sponsors that we’re able to donate all money raised by runners to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
“Last year’s event helped the charity support 20 newly diagnosed local patients and their families through the Family Support Network programme.
“ It also paid for added home comforts for the unit’s recreational room, helping to provide a more relaxed home-from-home environment.
“Before the teenage ward opened they would have had to receive treatment on either a children’s ward or the general ward for adults, and as anyone with teenagers will know – they are neither!”
It is the second year in a row that Redrow have sponsored the run, and Helen McGill, the firm’s South Midlands area sales manager, said: “The Teenage Cancer Trust’s unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge provides a valuable resource for people in the surrounding area including those in Royston.
“We’re delighted to be able to support such a worthwhile local cause, and we would encourage those who haven’t yet entered to sign up and join in the fun and help turn Royston blue.”
There is still time to enter the event and raise cash for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Simply fill out a form online at www.roystoninblue.co.uk, or enter on the day. The run starts at 10.30am.
