Members of a Royston society have been doing their bit for the environment by putting funds together to plant a tree on Therfield Heath.
Roysia Women’s Club were inspired to plant the rowan tree after a talk by Paddy Byrne from The Woodland Trust back in September, at which money was collected to purchase a tree. It was suggested that it could be planted on Therfield Heath and after requesting permission from the conservators, several members duly watched the planting of the rowan tree near the tennis courts.
Club secretary Mavis Ingle said: “It was good to do something for the environment. It was a bit cold up there but it was a lovely event.”
Roysia Women’s Club meet at Royston Town Hall on Mondays at 8pm until 10pm.
