A Royston woman will be taking to the pitch at Wembley Stadium tonight (Saturday) ahead of the two Rugby League World Cup semi-finals.

Alison Bass, 43, of Highlands, Royston, will be on the pitch as part of the Gamesmaker Choir, which formed during the London 2013 Olympics.

Last year the choir released a charity single, I Wish For You The World, in the run-up to Christmas.

Mrs Bass said: “We will be singing the national anthems for both matches, and will also be singing seven other songs as pre-match entertainment, one of which is a song by Elbow who have sent us a message of good luck, as well as the traditional Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem!

“It’s been an exciting year and no-one could have imagined 12 months ago where we would be today.”

Victoria Verbi, the choir’s founder and director said: “I never imagined that over a year after the 2012 Games finished we would still be together singing, let alone performing at Wembley Stadium at the next major international sporting event in this country.

“It’s been fantastic and long may it continue. People have responded to us so positively. I think we’re a happy reminder of that amazing few weeks last summer.”

The choir will be performing live on BBC One from 12.30pm.
