Royston woman to do Strictly Come Dancing

A ROYSTON dancer is set for a night of glitz when she takes part in a Strictly Come Dancing style competition this week.

Tara Prior, a teacher at the Stephanie Prior School of Dance in Flint Cross, was hand-picked by bosses at Tesco, who is hosting the competition, to take part in the event at the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre tonight (Thursday).

The competition is in the same format as the popular BBC programme, with teachers like Tara taking the role of professionals, and Tesco employees filling the ‘celebrity’ position.

Miss Prior said: “I had a call from Tesco head office at the end of September and they explained what they were doing.

“I was lucky enough that someone had heard of me or my reputation, and they asked me to be in the competition.

Tara was then paired with her dance partner Matt Willis, a Tesco employee from Luton, and they began their stringent training regime.

“Matt is very good, and I’m lucky to have him as my partner. He’s very committed to training, and has been driving over to Flint Cross from Luton twice a week.

“I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we can do well,” said the former St Mary’s School pupil.

The night’s profile rose when it was announced that Alesha Dixon, one of the current Strictly judges, was to fulfil her usual role at this event.

“When everyone knew she was a judge we all became so excited. There will be a top ballroom and Latin professional on the panel too, so we are looking to impress,” said Miss Prior.

All 700 tickets for the evening have been sold, with funds donated to Clic Sargent, Tesco’s chosen charity.
