The draft Local Plan for North Herts has been approved by councillors, with Royston set to grow by up to 25 per cent.
The plan – passed by a North Herts District Council vote of 32 councillors in favour, seven against and five abstentions on Wednesday night last week – calls for up to 14,600 new homes, including 1,712 in Royston.
There are currently about 6,800 homes in Royston.
