Royston Rotarians are launching an initiative to help people affected by memory loss and their carers.
The Rotary Club of Royston’s David Izod has spearheaded a campaign to bring a memory café to the town – a place, he says, which will ofer a warm welcome for those living with memory loss.
The aim is to evoke old memories that are complete and comfortable through, for example, refreshments in china cups, photos and documents from past years, songs and poems and informal talks.
David said: “There are quite a few memory cafés in neighbouring towns, but Royston hasn’t had one for some years.
“We aim to put that right, because our research shows they can be a really useful and valued resource for everyone with memory problems – those with dementia, of course, but not forgetting that memory loss can stem from several other conditions too.”
The Rotary Club will absorb all costs of the memory café, which will be free to attend with no bookings required.
