A motorist allegedly reacted to a crash in Royston by getting out and punching the other driver in the face – and police have today appealed for witnesses.

The incident happened in the Old North Road at 6.30am on Friday, November 10, when a silver VW Polo and a dark grey Honda Jazz crashed near the Tesco Extra roundabout.

The Honda driver is alleged to have got out and smacked the Polo driver in the face before getting back into his car and driving off towards Bassingbourn.

The Polo driver, a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries to his eye.

The suspect is described as a stocky white man, aged between 50 and 60 and between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall. He had receding black hair, and was wearing a black top with a white logo and grey tracksuit bottoms.

PC Peter Cook, who is investigating, said: “This incident happened on a busy roundabout where there were reportedly a number of cars queuing to travel onto the A505, so I believe several people may have witnessed what happened.

“Did you see the incident? If you have not yet spoken to police, I would urge you to make contact with us as soon as possible.

“If you were travelling in the area at the time stated and have a dash cam fitted in your vehicle, we would be very keen to view any footage you can provide.”
