Pupils said goodnight to brain tumours this week when they went to school in pyjamas.

Roman Way First School in Royston held a ‘Say Goodnight to Brain Tumours Day’, which saw all pupils at the school wearing pyjamas and bring in their favourite bedtime stories to raise awareness of brain tumours.

The day was organised by Hayley McKenzie, whose six-year-old daughter Sophie was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.

She said: “We were very lucky with the outcome, the fact that it was benign and was successfully removed by the fantastic surgeons at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. We were also lucky with the amount of support and understanding the school, Roman Way, gave us in helping her recover.

“The more information we can get out there, the more it will help families like ours should they be in the same situation.”
