Thieves smashed a window at a newsagent in Royston in the early hours of this morning – the second time in a month the store has been targeted.

The burglary happened at McColl’s, in Queens Road, at about 3.20am.

Three offenders parked outside the premises in a black Audi, then two smashed a window at the front of the premises and forced open a cash machine.

After finding the machine to be empty, they left the premises without taking anything and got back into the car, which was driven off down the one-way street the wrong way.

Anyone who was in the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously or who has any information which could assist the investigation should call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number G4/16/1045.
