A village school held a garden party to celebrate its 100th birthday.

Reed First School held the party on June 28, with current and past pupils and staff attending.

Royston MP Oliver Heald was one of the guests of honour, along with Catherine Bearder, Liberal Democrat MEP, who is a former pupil of the school and who attended the party with one of her sisters.

Two former headteachers, Olive Millington and Alison Thomas, helped cut the birthday cake, while an exhibition of some memorable moments in the school’s history was on display.

Headteacher Jackie Harvey said: “As the 14th headteacher in the 100 years of Reed School, I feel extremely privileged to be a part of its ongoing history and wanted the day to be one which also paid tribute to those who have shaped it in the past as well as a celebration of the special place of early learning it is today. I would like to thank all those who attended on the day and those who worked behind the scenes to make it happen. It was a real team effort.”
