A Royston man who ran this year’s London marathon has taken on another challenge – which he said was ‘even tougher’.
Craig McMurrough took on the 26.2 mile marathon last month, but said doing the same distance as a moonwalk for Breast Cancer Now was harder.
The 46-year-old said: “It was so much tougher than doing the marathon. Walking that distance, for some reason, made it seem like it was never ending.”
Craig has taken on a series of marathons and challenges, which will also include Chicago and Porto marathons and the Great North Run, in memory of his sister Cheryl Earnshaw who sadly died of ovarian cancer aged just 43.
He has raised more than £2,500 so far and this time started the race with friends Caroline Webb and Sharon Gruskin, also from Royston. “I was really surprised how hard it was, you’re not allowed to run, only walk. We left Clapham Common at midnight under a cover of darkness in our MoonWalk bras, and we got separated. I finished about 6.30am and they finished afterwards.”
Craig ran in a bra given to him by a friend he met on the London marathon who has just undergone a double mastectomy, making the walk even more poignant.
He will run his next race in Edinburgh at the end of the month.
